Old Delhi - Where the Old Meets The New

Old Delhi is every true Delhiite's pride. It is like a constant reminder of our roots and how awesome it is to be from this beautiful mystery called Delhi. It's like tea after a long, tiresome day. It's comforting and one is always looking forward to it. The old city charm is what the essence of Old Delhi is. Old Delhi has traces of Mughal Architecture, since it was founded by the Mughal Emperor, Shahjahan. It is famous for having amazing food joints, great book stores and many picturesque locations, which make it every photographer's delight. So here's a list of things that make Old Delhi the hidden gem it is.

1) Jama Masjid

One of the largest mosques of the country, this is one resplendent specimen of grand architecture. Jama Masjid can be easily spotted because it is the main attraction of Old Delhi and thousands of people offer prayers here. The best time to visit the mosque would be at night because it is beautifully lit up and looks like a dream. One can even taste the delicious kebabs and biryanis that are served in the little lanes surrounding the mosque. I'm sure every Delhiite can promptly vouch for the food here.

2) Chandni Chowk

Chandni Chowk is probably the busiest market in Old Delhi because one can find anything here, anything at all. One can shop for Indian clothes and ethnic jewelry here, which is what this market is primarily famous for. Other than that, one can find everything ranging from hardware to appliances in this market. This market is a very vibrant place to be in, so one must carry their camera to capture photos that would look straight out of a magazine.

3) Paranthe Wali Gali/ Karim's

The one thing that is sure to win over anyone, is the food in Old Delhi. From beef kebabs priced as low as Rs 10 to a whole street dedicated to the famous Indian delicay - the Parantha, Indian flatbread. One can go to the street and eat in little restaurants that arguably serve the best paranthas in India. If you're fond of Mughlai food, Karim's is the place for you. Everything on their menu is lip-smacking. Wash the food down with some sweet lassi and you're done for the day.

4) Book Market in Daryaganj

Daryaganj could easily be mistaken for a walk-in library because of the huge stacks of books one can spot in each side of the streets. Bibliophiles could easily call this place heaven, because one can buy books here by weight. So you can buy a kilogram of books and still won't have to spend a bomb. It's as awesome as it gets. One should definitely give this place a go.

Visit the walled city at night for a more memorable adventure.
